Including Physical Activity with Virtual Learning

This is a pencil sharpener I call Alien Guy.

When working with a student online, I have to remember not to focus on my little checklist of objectives I want to cover. Most of the time, the student has already had a long day at school and probably doesn't want to even sit down at the computer with a teacher. Lately, I have been incorporating some movement breaks in the sessions. I have the student do some simple physical activities; clapping, stretching, snapping fingers. I have seen some good results from this.
First, it usually takes the student by surprise (unless it is a reoccurring student). Second, it provides a little time for the student to not feel performance stress. I have noticed just doing these simple little tasks act as a reboot for the brain.

If I'm dealing with a younger elementary student, I sometimes show them these guys. The kids always love these! They always ask what is that? It gives us a little time to lighten things up for the student.

Taking a little break isn't going to cost the student any academic achievement.
Burning the student out on learning, though, may cause his
academic failure.

This guy is actually an eyeglass holder.
